I have the bad verse

Got the stuff for the clubhouse! It looks great. I've been very busy with school and memorizing a verse of "We Three Kings" for the Christmas pageant. I'm a king. Sadly,
"Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume,
breaths a life of gathering doom."
Each of the three kings sings a verse by themselves. We sing the chorus and the first and last verses together. And I got stuck with the weird verse: "sealed in the stone cold tomb." Very cheerful, isn't it?
In fact, that verse is so cheerful, last Saturday, when our family went caroling to shut-ins with the choir, before we started singing "We Three Kings" the choir director said "Let's not sing verse four." Duh. What kind of person wants to hear about "crying, weeping, dying, bleeding, sealed in the stone cold tomb." Not shut-ins, that's for sure.

Sorry. Posted late.

I know. I've been neglecting my blog. But this November, I wrote a NOVEL. Five thousand words. One month.

I also have had to type up important documents on Mom's old typewriter for my club. We've been making hats and scarfs for sale out of fleece. We sell candy canes along with them. The club needs the money to keep the clubhouse fixed up. A recent winter addition is thick woven mats over the window to keep the cold out. We want to buy a better rug. Right now we have some old towels on the floor. We've woven, knitted, and crocheted enough mats to hang on the walls. There's a board across two wooden crates for a desk. Sophie warms up a few corn bags, and it's a cozy little room. We have a battery-powered lamp. We have a binder and a lock box. The list of things to buy:

- a better rug

- a bulletin board

- coat hooks to hang on the walls

- a wastebasket

Cost: $20 (we think- we can get some items from the dollar store).

We hope we'll have enough by the Saturday after this one. Those things will make the clubhouse look much nicer.

Et cetera

Mary's coming home friday! We took her to Aunt Sue and Uncle George's farm so that they could mate her and she would have a kid. We had to do it now in order to have her kid in spring. While she was gone, Mom had me clean out her shed. So now it's nice and clean for her.

Mom's been teaching other kids piano, so about two days a week I come home and Mom isn't home. I kind of enjoy it. I sometimes go over to Allie's house. Sometimes from there we go to the park. Whatever we do, it's fun.

In social studies at school, we've been learning about Hitler. What a jerk! Today we played "Hide from the gestapo" where a small group of kids have to hide from the other kids, who try to find us. In less than a minute, we had to remove our schoolbooks, put our chairs on top of our desks, and get in the closet and in our hiding places. We hide behind some boxes. I find it pretty fun.

My mom just got home. Bye!

What Happened

Ok. First things first. Kittens. Allie's family adopted Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. I kept Grizabella and Mistofelilees. Only Macavity had to go to the pound. And the pound called me a week after I dropped her off, saying that she'd been adopted and named Crookshanks.

The family reunion. A TON of relatives came down from Canada. It seemed like there was not one kid that spoke English. They all spoke French. To further confuse things, there was an old grandmotherly lady named Joanna, and our names kept on getting mixed up. Then there was the food. My family brought a frozen berry dessert. But every single one of the relatives was allergic to strawberries! The food they brought was totally weird. The grossest things were as such:
celery, cottage cheese, and peanut salad; cherry-stuffed onions; peanut butter on a stick (be sure to roll in garlic breadcrumbs!); and something called "pear salad", made by putting a canned pear half on a lettuce leaf, adding a blop of mayonnaise, and sprinkling on grated cheese. They also brought a drink made with maple syrup, apple cider, and cranberry juice.
On the bright side, I won't have to go to another family reunion anytime soon.

I've started school. I'm in advanced writing and am the editor for the Sixth Grade Page in the school newspaper. It isn't too bad.

By the way, I'm starting flute soon. I hope to post again sometime within this month.

Very Long-- Read at your own risk

Yes, I now have a pet parakeet. Her name is Sunny. She's blue and very sweet. She lives in a white cage on top of my bookshelf. Grizabella has an annoying habit of sitting on my bed, staring at Sunny, ready to pounce, tail twitching.

Oh. Grizabella's kittens have to go back to the pound. :'-( I don't know which ones to send back. Mom and Dad say I can only keep two cats. So, two kittens or Grizabella and a kitten. I think I'll keep Grizabella. Not many people want a grown cat. But all the kittens are so sweet!

Moving on. I've been making my room nicer with Mom. When I'm finished, most things will be light blue or green. I'm making a green circle-quilt coverlet and a blue and green patchwork bag for my stuffed animals. I have a blue curtain to cover the open part of my wardrobe (it doesn't have a door), one blue and one green curtain to cover my windows, and a nice green, blue, and white woven rug. Very nice. Nothing gauzy for a pet to shred.

The other day Sophie borrowed Mary to get rid of poison ivy. It's a good way to get rid of it. It doesn't harm goats at all.

Sophie, Allie, and I have started a club. Sophie has an old tree house that we've been fixing up. Yesterday we went up there and did a NGTV trifecta. NGTV stands for Night Gown TV. Sophie and Allie laugh their heads off when I do an "afterburner". It's fun.

I will now go to the basement to do gymnastics.

What's been happening

I know, I know. The talent show was almost a week ago. Who cares? This is how it went: it went as planned. The teacher got misty eyes. The play was not great, but reasonably good. The song for the finale was stupid. It was a lot of fun!

Today was the last day of school. At recess, Zoe went over to Sophie and said this: "My suspicions were wrong-- you did get promoted to sixth grade. But you'll obviously be taking LAME english and LOSER math." Sophie could have knocked her flat-- but she didn't. She instead slapped her hard. She said, "As a matter of fact, I'm not taking sixth grade math, but the level above that." Zoe went away. The rest of the day was fine.

More news. I completely caught up in math. Mom and Dad said that as a reward, they would get me something special. Guess what I said. A parakeet! Mom and Dad considered it for a while, then said yes. We're going to pick one out on Saturday.

All in all, everything is fine. I am happy and so is everyone else. Yay!

Dress Rehearsal

Today at school we had the dress rehearsal of our show, when we ran it end to end. It worked out fine. Tomorrow is the real show. We end school on thursday next week. We did it just like we will tomorrow. After lunch, we did math. Then, at one, we started to get ready. We were all a little scared. In the bathroom, where we changed, there was a mutual feeling of tension. I helped Allie put her hair into a bun. I'm second. The end of my act ends with me in a split. As soon as the curtain closes, Thump! that's me getting out of my split. I have to fold up my pad quick as a flash. I go back in the dressing room. I put my hair in a bun and slip on my tunic over my unitard. A bit later, Amy and I get ready for the Odyssey Rap. Even once that's done, I can't relax. I get out of my greek monkeysuit. In the end, the finale, we sing the stupid song. It goes somewhat like this:

We are the future of the world,
We will take care of the earth,
We will take care of our country,
We will give freedom a new birth.

Why am I telling you this today, not tomorrow? Tomorrow I'm going to tell what actually happened- not what it was supposed to be like.

News Update

I've been really busy with the kittens. Buster found his family before he had to go to the shelter. The other kittens, my kittens, are starting to play. They are so cute! I've been working really hard at school. I'm almost completely caught up in math. I'm already above the standard for reading and writing things. Everyone in the fifth grade knows what they are going to do for the end-of-the-year talent show. We have to sing a really stupid song for the finale. The music teacher has been working on it with us. Last Saturday Mom and I went all the way to the mall. At the Target there, I got my gymnastics outfit. It's a black tank top shorty unitard with rhinestones around the neckline. Of course I have some old ones that I could wear. But would you like to give a performance to very minor key music while wearing a ratty old unitard that's blue with huge purple starbusts on it? I wouldn't. Uh-oh, I can hear Blackie fighting with one of the kittens.

Buster

Today, when I got on the bus to go to school, I felt grumpy. Allie and Sophie weren't on the bus. I started to shove my backpack under the seat in front of me. Mreerer! I heard. I know that sound, I thought, it's an annoyed cat! I looked under the seat, and a tiny brown kitten was there. He is really cute! I pulled him out. "Gosh," I said. Madison looked over the back of my seat. "Ms. Smith! Ms. Smith! Joan found a kitten under a seat!" she shouted to our bus aide. "What?" Ms. Smith asked. "I did. I found him under the seat in front of me," I replied, holding him up. "Here," said Ms. Smith, passing back a lunch box from the lost-and-found box, "You can keep him in there until we get to the school."

At school, I took the kitten, who I had named Buster, into the principal's office. We settled on an agreement. I could keep the kitten in the janitor room as long as I would clean up after it and feed it. And if no one came to pick it up by friday, it would have to go to the shelter. Mom came and picked me up after school and brought some kitten chow. I took and old cardboard box and filled it with sand from the playground to make a litter box. A photographer for the newspaper was there to take pictures of the 1st grade outdoor clean up day, and she took a picture of Buster. I hope Buster won't have to go to the shelter.

The Food Processor Movie

Last night Mom and I watched the Cuisinart DVD for her food processor (she got it ages ago). At first they just told you how to use your food processor. Zen dis famoos chef wiz a outragous franch acsent showed you 'ow tu make differant foodz using your Cuisinart food processuer. 'E said zat everyzing smelled aand tasted magnificant. He didn't measure anything! He also didn't let the pizza dough rise. And he thought that pita bread, not tortilla chips, went with salsa. But most of the foods did look good.

News, news, news,

I am finally going to write about the talent show rehearsal that happened a week ago Friday. Most people have an idea of what they are going to do. For people who can't think of anything at all, the teacher will have a play for them.

We have a good system for how much time you get. You get two minutes if you're preforming alone, and if you aren't, you get and extra minute for every other person. So, in my gymnastics act, I just get two minutes. Allie and Madison get three minutes. Sophie, Amy, and I only get three minutes because I am already in another thing.

I don't know what music I should use, but I've got an idea of what the routine is. Amy and I are getting along well with the background tumbling for the Odyssey Rap.

Now, I have something very important to tell you. Yesterday after church I was in the basement doing gymnastics when Mom came down.
"You know those relatives up in Canada?" Mom said.
"Yeah, the ones we send a Christmas letter to every year and they send us one. So?" I said, getting ready for a handstand.
"We're having a family reunion with them this summer at Aunt Sue and Uncle George's farm." she said, as I kicked up for the handstand. Whumph! That had surprised me so much that I flipped over from the handstand and forgot to roll out.
"What?!?" I yelled. I had scared Goldilocks, so I went over to her hutch and cuddled her.
"From about the 23rd to the 26th of July," she replied.
I said to her "Fine, I believe you now," and put Goldilocks back in her hutch.

Saturday Chores

Saturday is pet care day for me. I had just gotten used to taking care of Goldilocks, when BAM! Grizabella had her kittens. Now I have a very long list of pet care chores on Saturday. Here's the list:

1. Add more straw to Mary's shed

2. Lug water for Mary

3. Add an armful of hay to Mary's manger

4. Let the geese out

5. Feed and water the geese

6. Clean out the smelly goose droppings

7. Walk Blackie

8. Feed and water Blackie

9. Feed Forty-Niner

10. Feed Shimmer

11. Feed and water Grizabella

12. Change the towels in Grizabella's box

13. Change the litter in the litter box

14. Clean out Shimmer's bowl

15. Walk Blackie

16. Feed and water Goldilocks

17. Replace the newspaper under Goldilocks' cage

18. Walk Blackie as needed

19. Feed all pets in evening

Get the picture? I have a lot of chores on Saturday. And don't you forget that I have to do my non-pet care chores, which are washing the dishes (we don't have a dishwasher), and, since it's Saturday, cleaning my room. Oh, it's time for dinner, I guess I'd better tell about the school talent show rehearsal later.

Kittens

Grizabella had her kittens!!!!!!!!!! They are really cute. We had been hoping she would have them all spring break, and she finally had them at 3AM monday morning. I woke up hearing a weird animal-like sound. I took a peek under the bed, and saw that Grizabella was having her kittens. I woke up Mom and Dad. Grizabella had four tiny kittens, two boys and two girls. I named them after characters in the musical Cats. The little black kitten is Mistoffilies, the brown kitten is Mungojerrie, the gray kitten is Rumpleteazer, and the orange kitten is Macavity. I've been really busy. Well, I guess I'd better start my homework.

Everything that's been happening

Yesterday was my first day back at school. I wasn't too far behind because I had done some of the work at home. I think I learned more while I was sick than while I was at school these last two days. We're learning how to find out what a percent of a number is. As always, I already know all of the vocabulary words. We apparently got a book report assignment on monday. We each have to read a piece of classic literature (abridged is fine), and we have to pretend we are selling the book. We get to pick whatever book we want. I chose "The Picture of Dorian Gray". I asked Mrs. Brown and she said it would be all right. There wasn't anyone who had picked it. I asked Sophie and Allie if they would help me, and they said they would.

While I was sick, I started training Grizabella. She is a fast learner. She can already come when I call her, give me a high five, and wait on a stool while Mom or I cook.

There's going to be an end-of-the-year talent show for the fifth-graders (we're going to middle school next year). I want to do a gymnastics act. Sophie is doing a performance of the Odyssey rap with Amy and I tumbling in the background. Allie is doing some dancing with Madison, the girl who takes tap dancing. Their plan is to do the same thing, but in tap or ballet dancing. I think I'll practice some gymnastics now.

Long Post!

There has been a lot going on, but today I'm only going to write about my birthday party. I had it at 2:00 on the seventh. Aunt Sue and Uncle George came. They brought me a rabbit! She is the perfect goldie-brown color. She has rather floppy ears, so I named her Goldilocks. Allie and Sophie both thought she was sweet. Mom kind of flipped out when I got the rabbit. She was worried that I wouldn't be able to handle yet another pet. But I can. I've had her for more than a week and I am managing fine. I am a little busy, but I can handle it.

Back to the party. Dad had built me a balance beam. It was just like the beams they have at school. I really like it. Allie got me a cat training kit. I'm going to use it on Grizabella. Sophie gave me The Girl's book: How To Be the Best at Everything. It has how to deal with bullies, act like a celebrity, make your own bubble bath, how to ice skate, how to bake your own bread, pet a wild horse, survive in a horror movie, and a lot more.

We fenced and fenced and fenced. If one of us got hit too hard with a sword, we would go off to the side and put an ice pack on the hurt part, then join back in. It took a long time for anyone to win. Allie won. To win, you have to get the other people on the ground and take their swords. NO THROWING THE GAME!

My birthday cake was chocolate with chocolate frosting. Mom had made flowers on the top using almonds and maraschino cherries. She also put white chocolate chips around the edge of the cake. It was delicious.

You may be wondering about why I am writing about this now, more than a week after I turned 11. Well, I've been busy. So how come I have time now? The answer-- I'm sick. I got the flu. The doctor said that I should rest and not stay outdoors for very long. So I can't walk Blackie or feed, water, clean up after, and spread new bedding for Mary, Lacy, and Marshmallow. Wonderful. And I can't do gymnastics. But I can write. It's the most interesting thing I can do.

Presenting-- Grizabella!

We brought home Grizabella today. She is so sweet! She and Blackie do fairly well together. They just have to give each other some space. That's why I put Grizabella's box in my room, while Blackie's crate is in the den.

We had a few minor difficulties with the box. We made the perfect box for having kittens in-- big enough to be comfortable, towel lined, et cetera. It's location was the problem. We had stuck it in a corner of the room that doesn't get that much traffic. But Grizabella wanted it under the bed, where That Pest (i.e., Blackie) couldn't get at it. Oh all right.

I found out another interesting thing about Grizabella. She likes pretzels! I was getting myself a snack and I dropped a pretzel. Before you could say "cat", she had gobbled it down.

We feed her on dry food. We also use litter for multiple cats, because one of those bins goes a long way.

My birthday is coming up soon. March 8th, to be exact. I won't care if I get don't get anything. Having a cat is great. I think I'll go practice handsprings. :-)

Grizabella

We picked out the cat today! Mom and Dad had some special requests. 1: It must be a friendly cat (duh), 2: It must be a short-haired cat. All right. So today we went to the pound to pick out the cat. I found the perfect cat. She's white with faint light gray stripes. She has blue eyes. She's very nice. When I petted her, I think I heard a little bit of a purr. I think I'll name her Grizabella. We got her stuff today. We did not, however, put the litter in the litter box yet, as Blackie might think it is for her. I think it will be fun to have a cat even if it didn't have kittens, and this one is going to have kittens.

Gymnastics

One day to cat. Actually more, since we're picking out the cat on Saturday and bringing it home on Sunday. But that's not what I wanted to tell about today.

At school we're doing a 3-4 week session on gymnastics. Well if you've been reading my blog for a little while, you'll know that I'm pretty good at gymnastics. Well, at school the gym teachers want all of us fifth-graders to be able to do the following by the end of the session: do a cartwheel, stand on our head, do a bridge, and jump pretty high on the springboard (this is by far the most popular activity), and do a little jumpy thing on the balance beam. I can already do all those things. The gym teachers are nice about it. They let me and this other girl, Amy, practice harder stuff. We practice other types of tumbling, do cartwheels on the beam, and do squat-ons on a pile of mats. We also do harder stretches and practice handstands. Sophie does best on cartwheels and springboard. She has a lot of strength and is fearless (she can push off for a cartwheel hard enough for five cartwheels). Allie does her best on headstands and beam. She does ballet (she has toe shoes-- wow!), and has an extraordinary sense of balance.

Here at home, I got out my old gymnastics mat. I rolled it out in the basement. I'm trying to learn how to do a handspring. You have to kick up very hard. I think I'll go and practice some more.

Yes!

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!!!! I am getting a cat! Well, I suppose it is possible I wouldn't. Because I have to take care of my current pets with no reminders or complaining for a week, and have Mom and Dad both approve of the pet I want. I also have to keep up in school, and not have Mom or Dad think I'm being overworked. I'll be able to handle all that.

Clean to get a Cat

Today I did a lot. Mom and Dad don't seem totally against the idea of getting a cat, but they still haven't said yes. Today, to show them that I can handle another pet, I took extra care to make my pets happy. I fed them all on time, and I also cleaned up after them super well. Today being Saturday, I had to clean my room. To impress my mom, I did a great job. I am messy, but I don't have too much stuff, so I have a place for everything. I just don't put my stuff away. Today, instead of tossing my covers over my bed, I made it neat and smooth. I didn't just throw the stuff on the floor in my ottoman, I actually put it away. When Mom came in, everything was immaculate. I felt proud. I think I can handle a cat.

Love a Pet

Because it's almost Valentine's day, the animal shelter came to our school to give a special assembly on pet care. We learned about poor dogs that get abandoned when their owner moves. We learned about how no one wants an adult cat, just kittens, and how they wished they had nice homes for pregnant females. We learned that absolutely no one wants a adult male cat, because if he is neutered as an adult, he will still spray, yowl, and prowl. We all took the pet care pledge. It goes like this:

I, ______________, to take care of my pet(s) __________ __________________. I will get them spayed or neutered, and I will give them fresh food and water in a clean dish every day. I promise to never abandon them.

This pledge was slightly problematic for me. I didn't know how I could fit the words goat, geese, dog, fish, and turtle in the space allowed, much less Mary, Lacy, Marshmallow, Blackie, Forty-Niner, and Shimmer. Also, I didn't know if you even could spay or neuter a fish or a turtle. I don't even know wether Shimmer or Forty-Niner is a boy or a girl. There is no reason whatsoever for me to spay my geese, and it is just plain stupid to think I am going to spay Mary-- I want her to have a kid so I can milk her. In fact, Blackie is the only one of my pets that is spayed. I would really like to adopt a pregnant cat so she wouldn't have to have her kittens in the animal shelter. It would be fun.

My New Trick

Welcome to Gymnast Joan's Daring Dog Act! I have taught Blackie to run back and forth in this certain place. I have taught myself how to do gymnastics over her. This is what my daring dog act is: I do a one-handed cartwheel over Blackie as she runs across. I go into a handstand, and as Blackie runs in front of me, I flip over. Now comes the most daring act of all: I do a back- walkover over Blackie. Yes, I can do all that. Back in Los Angeles, I was in a small gymnastics club. I never was in a competition, though. As for the Blackie part, I had a number of dramatic flops, most of them resulting in bruises. But I can do it now. And that's all that matters.

My Dream

I had a really weird dream last night. I dreamed I was standing on top of the monkeybars with Zoe. She was hurling cans of frozen orange juice at me. Then Mary was flying with Blackie on her back. Blackie jumped off and landed on the monkeybars. She spun around and a frozen pizza appeared in her mouth. She tossed the pizza onto my head like a hat, then in a perfect imitation of Dug (see the movie UP)said "Hi there!"to me, grabbed Zoe's ankle and said "Please oh please be my prisoner! Please oh please oh please!" Then I woke up.

My Report Card

Last friday I got my report card. Ugh. I got the "needs improvement" box checked on math. The teacher said this--

"Joan has a basic understanding of most math concepts but has trouble with fractions and multiplication."

Because of this, I now get extra multiplication and fraction homework. As if I didn't have enough to do already. I did fine on the rest, except reading, which I got an "outstanding" on. That's what you get for reading the non-abridged version of "The Swiss Family Robinson" during the summer. I guess I had better get started on those 578 pages of homework.

Chores

My life seems like and endless cycle of chores. Every morning I have to get up, get dressed, make my bed, go downstairs and put on my jacket and boots, and go outside. Then I let Mary into her yard, spread fresh straw, add an armful of fresh hay (she doesn't have milk anymore), and carry a bucket of water for her (which is VERY heavy). Then I care for the geese. I let them out of their shed, rake out their droppings (eewww!), and get their food and water. Then I get to go inside, but my chores aren't finished. I let Blackie out of her crate, and I feed and water her too. Then I feed Shimmer and Forty-Niner. After that, I take Blackie for her morning walk. That's a lot to do before breakfast.

Bathtime for Blackie

Today I bathed Blackie. I had to wash her because mom thought she was too smelly. I read all about it in my pet care book (called "Great Pets"). I remembered to put a leash on Blackie and to use plain soap. I did not miss the warning on how wet you will get. I started to soap her. I got the impression that she doesn't like baths. What had been a nice, relaxing bath, turned into a no-holds-barred wrestling competition. Blackie didn't like being rinsed either. When I had finished, I wasn't able to close the shower curtain before she shook. I was soaked. Once I had dried her with a towel, I let off the leash and out of the bathroom. She started running around like a maniac rubbing on the furniture. I chased after her for a few minutes, then settled down to comb out my tangled hair. I hope I don't have to wash her again any time soon.

Zoe

Zoe is a nasty bully. She spread a rumor around that I dye my hair. I do not! Today I confronted her at recess. This is how it went.

"It's amazing," I said.

"What, that there's someone on the planet a stupid as you?" asked Zoe.

"No, that people will believe a rumor stared by someone notorious for lying," I retorted, "and you know I don't dye my hair."

"You should," she said, "you're ugly. And your sense of fashion is terrible. What did you do to those shoes?"

"What's wrong with slip-ons? They're more comfortable than those 'ballet flats', and in cases like this, they're more practical too." I took off at a run. A smart move on my part, because when she chased after me, her dainty little shoes kept on slipping off her heels! And she was afraid to get her shoes dirty, so she hadn't caught up to me by the time we had to go in.

Forty-Niner's New Trick

Forty-Niner has learned a cute little trick! Whenever he's hungry, he will wiggle his body in a certain corner of his tank. You see, I always feed him in the same corner, so he learned that if he "dances" in that corner of the tank, I'll feed him. It is really cute.

Meet the Pets

Today Allie and Sophie came over. They got to meet all my pets. Sophie said she had never seen a goldfish bigger than Forty-Niner. Blackie jumped up on us all. We had all seen Shimmer before at Sophie's birthday party. Then we went outside, and I showed them my other pets. They both thought Mary was the sweetest thing on earth. They didn't like the geese so much. You see, the geese like me, and they were "defending" me against Allie and Sophie. They left around four thirty. It was fun, but I'm glad they left when they did, because I had to walk Blackie, get Lacy and Marshmallow back in their shed, and feed everybody. I guess I had better do my homework now.

The Book Bonanza

Last friday was so fun. It was the "Book Bonanza" at school. Everyone (including the teachers) wore costumes from a favorite book. Lots of people dressed up so they were from the same book as a friend. There were kindergartners dressed up like frog and toad, kids of all ages dressed like Harry Potter characters, and many others, some quite fancy, but I think our costumes were best. By "our", I mean Sophie, Allie, and I. We dressed up like the Three Musketeers! We wore baggy pants that we tucked into our boots, loose wide-sleeved blouses (our mom's), and sashes. We made blue smocks, each with a white fleur-de-lis on the front. We also wore big floppy hats, and used eyebrow pencil to draw on mustaches. We even spoke in french accents. Too bad we weren't able to bring our swords. Anyway, it was fun.

Yawn!

Today I did chores, chores, chores. I washed dishes, ironed, ran the carpet sweeper over the rugs, dusted, and took out the newspapers, not to mention taking care of my pets. I also cleaned my room. Now that was a job, considering I'm not that neat and mom is a clean freak. I'm tired. I also will have to walk Blackie again, set the table, help in the kitchen, and wash the dinner dishes. Just thinking about it makes me tired.

What a Great Day!

Today everything seemed to go right. Even with my hair being hip-length, it didn't have a single big snag when I brushed it. When I brought Mary her milk, she bleated happily and trotted right up to me. I think she is starting to like me. At school, I got an A on the pop quiz we had for review. There was crystalized ginger in my lunch box. When I told Blackie "sit'' she sat. And I didn't have to act in that stupid "The Golden Mask" play. I wish every day could go as well as today.

Shimmer's Adventure

Happy new year! I've spent most of my Christmas vacation taking care of my pets. I named my goat Mary, and my geese are named Lacy and Marshmallow. Both the geese are female and white. Today being Saturday, I stuck Shimmer in the sink while I washed her bowl. When I had finished, I went back to the sink, but Shimmer wasn't there. I looked all over the bathroom, and finally found her in the toothbrush cup. Mom washed that cup five times using excess amounts of soap. From now on, I'm going to put Shimmer in a bucket when I wash her bowl.
